Pre-Conference Workshop: Monday, 18 July 2011

14:00 – 17:00 Workshop: Cooperative ITS: The Developing Paradigm for Transport Management

Vehicle to vehicle infrastructure communication is an emerging technological framework that aims for direct data transmission between vehicles and road infrastructure using wireless communication. Data from vehicles may include speed, position, destination and occupancy and data from infrastructure may encompass congestion, controller status and routing information

Discussion Points:

  • Adaptive Traffic Signal Control Using Vehicle to Vehicle Infrastructure Communication
  • Safety: Collision mitigation, Intelligent speed adaptation
  • Freeway management: congestion mitigation
  • Dynamic road pricing
  • An insight into V2I technologies available for traffic management systems

About the Workshop Leader:

Dr Glenn Geers is the Systems Engineering Manager for the Smart Transport and Roads (STaR) Project and is Research Group Manager for the Making Sense of Data Theme at the Neville Roach Laboratory in Sydney. Glenn is on the Advisory Panel of the European Network of Excellence for Advanced Road Cooperative traffi c management in the Information Society Project.

He is also active in promoting the use of vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications (DSRC) in Australia and is a member of the AusDSRC Steering Committee.
